World Mental Health Day – Are You Ok? | David Waters
During the years of life we all have your moments and today we need to think of October 10th Mental Health Day. It’s just not another day but a day which causes problems for anyone no matter who you are. Let’s look at Disabilities, TBI, etc
One asked me what is normal? My reply “Normal is a cycle on a washing machine”
Since my own accident and suffering TBI, it was interesting to see how people treat you when they know you have an issue and maybe not the same as them.
Then you have to think, how do we get by day to day and get away been like a washing machine “Normal Cycle?”
How often do you honestly feel alone and unable to make do? Think of it seriously and how you feel?
Mental Health Day
It may come around on the 10th October or is that October 10th? You see how you think and rely on your surroundings? If your an Australian or a Kiwi you will see 10th October, but if your an American its October 10th.
There are many people who have a TBI, born with a disability or have a problem which causes all types of anxiety.
Yet, so many people maybe you have no real defect and have no real purpose in life, have a problem which is hard to resolve. You must think why? Many people no matter your IQ will have a Health Day. Everyone does. It’s how we deal with it that makes a difference.
Sometimes New Year’s Eve is a really stressful day after all many people will reflect of think of their life and where it is going.
Is’nt it crazy how often you will hear a person making a resolution like wanting to become rich, have a healthy life, give up smoking and or drinking, and what happens? It goes back to that 20/80 principles 20% will 80% won’t, but 4% will be the real achievers. Think about it.
Just think about this in your life if
If your NOT Disabled have you?
- Helped someone who is
- Laughed about it
- Looked the other way
- Not sure what to do
Can you relate to any of the above? Hopefully everyone has done “1” no one has done 2, 3 and hopefully, you can think if your a number 4 what to do.
Honestly when younger I may have, But, I don’t remember anything “Pre-Accident” life before my accident is very vague.
What concerns me is that people look at a disability as a “Bad Thing” maybe parents will take kids away from someone who is a bit different, you may think, I don’t want to know etc.
Sometimes that is understandable as there are some terrible disabilities out there and governments seem to think they are better off on the street trying to live a normal life. Institutions seem to shut down and “Normal?” minded government officials think they are better living on the street?
Mental Health day is more than just a day. Most people probably are not aware of it, or think ok mental health day, so what?
Many people seem to think “It will never happen to ME!!!”
So far enough many people get through life with no apparent problems. There are many mental health issues.
Some Causes of Mental Health
- Job loss
These people have some form of mental health issues but the made a difference. Some have become billionaires, millionaires, famous in their pursuit of happiness
- Abraham Lincoln – Severe Depression
- Alexander Graham Bell – Dyslexia
- Billy Joel – Depression
- Carly Simon – Social Phobia
- Jessica Lang – Depression
- 300 More here
These people conquered their problem and still went forward and have become famous.
Myself Severe TBI, would you ever think you could work with someone who has Facial Recognition problems or can’t remember 30 years of life.?
Well, look at that picture while making a video, who would have figured? Maybe because I don’t have visible scars etc. People think, oh he is ok.
Many people would never pick it unless I said something. When working for a major Business and became warranty co-ordinator for the South Pacific/Asia region, or my own business later, maybe how could I be the Head Trainer with 18 medical staff reporting to a guy with TBI who passed Human Anatomy and Physiology course with a score of 98%
People with Mental health, many are depressed or have troubles and the reason why? It varies but people tend not to give them the time of day. The help they need or the encouragement they are looking for.
Instead, they have an Issue!
Now think about what I’ve been writing. I have no real memory of the first 30 years of life. The last few years I’ve had to re-invent myself and do some amazing things.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a major cause of death. 153 people die from TBI in the USA on a daily basis. It was noted in the USA alone 2.8 million people died or live with TBI from accidents.
It is more important to realize that you could safely say. All these people said “It would not happen to ME”
Remember one thing about life. Nothing besides death is guaranteed. What you do is what makes you as a person.
Myself, I’m writing a book, I’ve had my own business worked with State, National and International Stars. Currently an online business.
With TBI, it does bother me and there are the problems. But like the 300 people here who are successful, we have made a difference in our life’s.
Now if you think you are in the “Normal Cycle” with no disabilities or mental issues.
What have you achieved?
List 10 here
And then you need a big clap and congratulations.
If you can’t list 1 or 2. Think hard about your future, and make a name for yourself. It doesn’t need to be huge, do something that will make people even in the family, friends, in the street think WOW
Mental Health Day is more than just a day it’s a day to think. What have you done, who have you helped and what have you prepared for the future?
Remember is a disabled person a person with mental health issues is just a symptom.
You may have issues at home with your family, your job, daily stress. It’s time to make a difference and do something.
