How Many Real Goal achievements Have You Completed
How Many Real Goal achievements Have You Completed
It really makes me think, after all, we are on earth for a short time and we have at one time or an other made goal/s. Some have achieved their goals and many seem to struggle with what is required to achieve them. The struggle people have in life. Is it peer pressure, negative surroundings that stop people and why is it so few reach the goal others just dream about?
What is a goal?
At times I go on Quora.com and read the questions and answers and add my 5-cents worth.
Often you hear of a person with a disability or someone from nothing become very successful. Then you see all these people in middle-class life who seem to have disabled that success story. Not to say you have to be world famous to be successful. But, they are in this rut, of watching people do well, and seem to get nowhere. They think it is all too hard. If they are happy then they have obtained that goal and are where they are at.
So, Where are you in the chain of success?
As said, you don’t have to be a movie star or a billionaire, anyone has success in their life. Yet, many will just get by and manage with what they have. It’s when they retire that you see who has what, and the direction their remaining years are.
Is your success been happy, having a new car or paid off your loan? They are successes in their selves.
Unfortunately, in life, there are many people who seem to fail in life and yet it has turned into their success story. There are so many injuries, in our life’s and what seems to come out of it is three types of people
- Negative and give up
- Unable to make a change
- Challenged their situation and succeeded
You know these people they have an injury or need an organ transplant etc and give up, or look for excuses not to do better. I have a friend on the liver transplant list, and worked very hard looking at various alternative therapies and not just sitting there feeling sorry for herself. Or those people who just can’t seem to find a positive in their life and expect others to listen and look after them. It’s important when you are down, to do whatever you can to keep positive.
Unable To Change
There are some injuries out there that there is no change, they are unable to change their situation and find it hard to make the change and make better what they have an injury or a disability.
Challenged their situation and succeeded
These people you will see on TV, in your street and every 4-years at the Para-Olympics. These people have a disability of some sort and no matter what, they have taken the challenge to make a difference and ensure they keep positive and show others no matter what. Do what you can with what you have.
If you Don’t have Goals?
This is not a great place to be yet so many are in this predicament. They are those workers who have a job and seem to make do with what they have. Yes, they dream of being rich, having this and that. Yet, they are caught up in having too many wants in life. They seem to have the priority, which pulls them behind the rest.
Funny though thinking back over my life and the car accident that changed my future how it has affected any goals that were set in place pre-accident. When looking back there appears to have been no goals written down just dreams and wishes of a better life. Which seems to be the same of so many people in life today.
So, life changed and needed to create a few Goals. To be honest, my memory was so vague that goal setting was impossible. Not remembering anything of my previous life. Family, Job, Life, etc. That a goal was really just to live and think what will happen with my spine, badly damaged or my brain badly damaged.
It could have been easy to give up, use it as an excuse and live off any government payments etc. There was a positive streak in there somewhere. And today I’m here with at least 10 goals done, finished and easily sit back and say
- I’ve run a marathon
- Owned a business
- Competed in Latin/Ballroom dancing
I Never Thought
I had a goal besides doing what needed to be done. For many years I never sat down and figured out where life would be in 5 or 10 years time. Just worked hard, and figured if getting paid and going to work is what life is about, that is life.
After all, we an injury knowing that who wants to employ a person with a traumatic brain injury? If you are an employer would you employ someone who has one? Probably not, after all, that person may cost you a lot. Right?
Funnily enough about 6 months after the accident, my old job said you can come back not as a Diesel Mechanic, as I don’t have an idea anymore what to do but in the office. I figured ok. So set a plan to learn how to touch type. This was on an old typewriter. It was about 4 days I taught myself to type 100 wpm. That is a goal achieved
Then worked in an office and ended up working in warranty. Part of this job was keeping statistics. So my boss taught me the basics of Lotus and Macros. Soon I was creating these macro programs. It’s easy once you are shown something just do what it takes and do it.
Now my goals are set Autobiography and talk about if my injuries didn’t stop me doing my best. What is your reason not to have a goal? What is stopping you? Read On
The Big Goal Change
Then soon moved from Perth to Melbourne and ran a warranty department looking after the South Pacific Region for various Diesel and Heavy Duty Transmission companies. Then left and started my own business, head trainer for Football competition and state teams. The funny thing is I had to do an Anatomy and Physiology Course. Learning how the human body works. At the completion of the exam, I actually felt very negative about the performance. Thinking when will and how can I re-sit this?
My result: 98%
What are Your Goals?
Just think of your life and where you are right now. Many of you have a goal or goals which you have set, achieved and celebrated
The goal many people need to think about and have not in place is “What if?”
We all inspire to have a better job, financially secure, good home, car, a retirement package etc. And if not start Now!
The one goal which the majority of people will not consider is “What If?”
What if there is a major incident?
And realistically how many people even think about it? After all “It won’t happen to me”
- A car accident over 2,000 people are killed daily from accidents
- 1 in 5 people in Australia have a disability, not all from birth
- Unexpected expenses
what goal have you in place for an incident. It may not be a goal. But, you must consider “What If”
When having my car accident, I would have thought about it pre-accident, but what are the chances?
We seem to be so careful with car insurance, house insurance and our looks etc.
But, hey in this day and age there are many ways to ensure “What if” happens what next?
Look at most people who work in manual labor, Brickies, plumbers, mechanics etc. They use their hands a lot have a lot of extra use of their backs etc. And they have a limited work life.
Some will work to retirement and had treatments and when they review retirement have they a figure on going medical expenses.
In this day and age
We must be ready to make the most of each day and create the future many just dreams about.
Dreams can be just that Dreams. But if you dream of something you think about. Just don’t dream go out there and do it.
Forget excuses few people have a valid reason not to improve their life.
Looking back in life. 10 Goals have been taken on, worked out and completed since my accident in 1990 and 4 Big Goals still in process.
Well, you have something to think about now. Think of where you are right now. Have you achieved what you need? Is there something you need to start or complete?
I’m looking forward to the day when fronting a seminar and telling people. If you have an excuse why not? You will see a list of who probably never should’ve done make a difference.
Would you not rather be admired for what you do than thinking, “how did they do that?” It was probably just one thing.
They took action!
